Bathroom lighting is the one part of a house where the regulations are specific and worth reading. Zone 0 is inside the bath itself. Zone 1 is directly above it to 2.25 metres. Zone 2 extends 600mm out from zone 1 and around a basin. Outside those zones the ordinary rules apply. Everything in this group carries a real IP rating tested on the finished fitting, not on a sample of the housing, and every one is supplied with the gasket fitted.

Fitting

This is a hardwired bathroom fitting and must be installed by a qualified electrician working to BS 7671 Part 7 Section 701. Check the zone before you buy: zone 2 begins 600mm from the edge of a bath or shower and extends 2.25m up from the floor. At roughly 1.6 kilograms it is light enough for a good quality plasterboard anchor if there is no timber behind.
