Some wall lights cannot be bought. A single surviving sconce from a pair. A glass shade broken by a door. A picture light for a frame nobody makes a standard length for. A finish that has to agree with a ceiling fitting already in the room.
Our atelier takes on around fifteen commissions a month.
What we make
- Matched pairs made from a single surviving original
- Glass shades blown to a broken original
- Plaster sconces cast from your drawing
- Alabaster carved to your dimensions
- Brass swing arms built to your reach
- Picture lights cut to a non standard length
- Crystal sconces restrung to a historic pattern
- Bronze castings taken from your own pattern
- Finish matching on any fitting we sell
- Rewire and restoration of your own sconces
- Hotel and restaurant specification runs
- Integrated dimming and control specification
How it works
- Send us what you have. Photographs from several angles, a tape measure in at least one of them, and a note of the room and the wall construction. If you have a drawing, send that.
- We tell you honestly whether it can be done. Within two working days. Sometimes the answer is no, or the answer is that restoring what you have is better than making new.
- A written quotation and a timescale. Fixed price. Most commissions run six to twelve weeks.
- A deposit of 50 per cent starts the work. We send progress photographs at the pattern or first sample stage and you approve before we go further.
- Balance on completion, then delivery on a two person service.
What it costs
A rewire and restoration of an existing sconce starts around £180. A matched pair made from a single original typically runs £900 to £2,400 depending on material and complexity. A blown glass shade to a broken original starts around £220. Contract runs are quoted per schedule.
The one thing to know
Bespoke work is exempt from the usual 14 day cancellation right, because it is made to your specification. That is why we take the approval stage seriously and will not proceed past it without your written yes.
