Vetro Bianco Rialto Hand Blown Glass Bubble Glass Disc Wall Light Pair

A flat disc of glass with air deliberately trapped in it, the bubbles set in rows by pressing the gather onto a bed of spikes before the second layer goes on. A Murano trick and still the prettiest way to hold light in flat glass.

Blown by mouth on the Venetian lagoon by a workshop we have bought from for years. Nothing is pressed and nothing is moulded except where the pattern needs a mould, so no two pieces are identical in wall thickness or in the exact set of the shoulder. Brass parts are made in England and the two are married here. Sold as a pair, blown in the same session by the same maker.

Fitting

This is a hardwired fitting and should be installed by a qualified electrician working to BS 7671. It arrives with a standard round backplate and fixing screws. Wall plugs are not supplied because the right fixing depends on whether you are going into brick, block, plasterboard or lath and plaster. It is a heavy fitting at roughly 10.8 kilograms, so fix into masonry or into a timber noggin behind plasterboard rather than into the board alone.
