Description

Two beams, one up the wall and one down it, from one lamp. On a stair it lights the treads below and the ceiling above at the same time.

A hallway is the one room in the house that is only ever passed through, so the light in it has to do its work without being looked at. That means shallow projection so nothing is caught by a coat or a shoulder, a wide enough spread that you are not walking through pools of light and dark, and enough output to see a doormat and a set of keys. Everything in this group is held to 180mm projection or less unless the description says otherwise.

Specification

  • Height 220mm, width 100mm, projection from the wall 100mm
  • Materials: steel, brass or glass depending on the fitting
  • Finish: four finishes
  • Lamp: 2 x G9, maximum 25W each
  • Supply: hardwired, 220 to 240V, 50Hz, terminal block behind the backplate
  • Switching: no integral switch, wired to a wall switch or a dimmer circuit
  • Rating: IP20, for dry indoor rooms
  • Backplate: round or shaped, covers a single pattress
  • Projection: 100mm, chosen so it clears a passing shoulder
  • Weight: approximately 1.7 kilograms

Fitting

This is a hardwired fitting and should be installed by a qualified electrician working to BS 7671. It arrives with a standard round backplate and fixing screws. Wall plugs are not supplied because the right fixing depends on whether you are going into brick, block, plasterboard or lath and plaster. At roughly 1.7 kilograms it is light enough for a good quality plasterboard anchor if there is no timber behind.
