Portland Lantern Works Portloe Solid Brass Wall Lantern Medium

A six sided lantern in solid brass, unlacquered so it goes from gold to brown to a soft green over about three years. If you want it to stay gold, order it lacquered and accept that the lacquer will need redoing. Sold singly.

Made in Cornwall from solid brass of a gauge that is heavier than it needs to be. Every seam is silver soldered, not glued and not riveted, and the glass is bedded on a silicone gasket that can be replaced without breaking anything. Marine grade stainless fixings are supplied because plated steel screws will streak the wall inside a winter.

Fitting

This is a hardwired exterior fitting and should be installed by a qualified electrician working to BS 7671. The gasket and cable gland are supplied. Bed the backplate onto a bead of neutral cure silicone and leave the lower edge open so any moisture can drain. At roughly 4.8 kilograms it needs a proper fixing. Use the supplied screws into masonry, or a heavy duty plasterboard anchor rated well above the weight of the light.
